    Systems Design Engineer (Weapons Systems Architecture & Equipment):
    Our client is a leading multi-national Defence systems provider which boasts some of most advanced facilities in their areas of expertise. The client is developing technologies that are so cutting edge that they are currently being utilised outside their own industry sector. At present the company employs well in excess of 10,000 staff worldwide and continues to grow in parallel with their continued success.

    We currently have several Systems Design Engineer opportunities focused on Weapon Systems Architecture and Equipment, available in the Bristol offices.

    You will be involved in System Design & Architecture activities contributing to the Specification, Design and Validation.

    The Weapon Systems Design Engineer responsibilities will include:
    Carry out a full range of technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and/or the development of engineering capability, individually or as a member of a project team.
    Prepare a full range of specifications (system, sub-system etc), develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained.
    Define testing approaches and specify tests in assigned/specialist area(s) and evaluate and make recommendations based on results, including making suggestions to improve test/diagnosis processes.
    Plan, control and deliver assigned projects or work packages, and make an input as required to cross-functional projects/investigations.
    Liaise with customer and subcontractors e.g. review customer’s needs, present findings and promote design solutions.
    Typical Roles could include:
    Requirements analysis and design in response to customer requirements.
    Identification of key design vulnerabilities between different solutions, e.g. maritime and land system variants.
    Development and embedding “hooks” into the system/sub-system design to enable adaptation/configuration for other applications, e.g. export variants.
    Investigations of potential re-use options for cost savings.
    Production and maintenance of sub-system software requirements specifications and interface requirements specifications.
    Ensuring correct flow down of top-level requirements to sub-systems and interfaces.
    Lead engineering support activities in the field (and carry out the most complex activities) for specific products and customers to ensure the operability of products.
    Plan, control and deliver assigned projects or work packages, and make an input as required to cross-functional projects/investigations; ensuring requirements are delivered to plan.
    Carry out team planning, risk management and quality activities in assigned areas in line with all requirements and processes.
    Provide effective support to customers in assigned areas, delivering solutions to meet the customer’s needs and requirements plus the programme plan.

    Suitable candidates will have:
    Degree or equivalent in relevant discipline
    Proven competency of working in a Systems Engineering environment
    Substantial analytical and problem solving skills
    Sound understanding of the system design process (including System and Sub-System Specification, System Test, Integration and Certification)
    Rhapsody and UML
    Knowledge of Algorithm and Software development.
    Practical knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
    Use of DOORS for requirement management, tracking and mapping certification evidence
    System testing including the production of related documentation
    Interface specification
    Knowledge of data analysis techniques
    Software technology and design/validation methods
    .Good verbal and written communications
    Experience in two or more of the following: System Definition, Systems Architecture Development e.g. MODAF, Requirements capture, decomposition and management, System Design and Analysis, Design Studies, Design/Performance Modelling, System Integration, Design Proving and Trials, Interface Design, System assessment and acceptance
